RVC was the Japanese joint venture of RCA Records and Victor, founded in 1975 to run the RCA label in Japan. Its RCA imprint launched the solo careers of Tatsuro Yamashita and Mariya Takeuchi.[1][2][3]
History
RVC Co., Ltd. was founded on 21 September 1975 with investment from RCA Records, Victor Company of Japan and Victor Music Industries, taking over the RCA division of Victor’s record business.[1] After RCA’s record arm passed to Bertelsmann’s BMG Music in 1986, RVC transferred its business to BMG Victor in 1987 and was dissolved.[1]
City pop
After Sugar Babe split in 1976, Tatsuro Yamashita signed to RCA and released Circus Town that year.[2] Mariya Takeuchi signed with RCA in August 1978 and released her debut album Beginning that November.[3] EPO debuted on RCA in 1980 with a cover of Sugar Babe’s “Down Town”.[4]
