Kazumasa Oda is a Japanese singer-songwriter, leader of the band Off Course and, as a solo artist, the voice of the million-selling “Love Story wa Totsuzen ni”.[1]
Off Course
Oda and Yasuhiro Suzuki began performing together in 1964 and formed The Off Course in 1969; they worked as a duo for six albums before three permanent members joined on the seventh in 1979.[1] Oda wrote the band’s hits “Sayonara” (1979), “Yes-No” (1980) and “Kimi ga Uso o Tsuita” (1984); Suzuki left in 1982 and the band played its final concert on 26 February 1989.[1]
Solo career
“Imadakara” (1985), a collaboration with Yumi Matsutoya and Kazuo Zaitsu, was a No. 1 hit, and Oda released his debut solo album K.Oda in 1986.[1] “Love Story wa Totsuzen ni”, released on 6 February 1991 as the theme for the drama Tokyo Love Story, sold about 2.6 million copies and ranks among the best-selling singles in Japan.[1] In 2007 “Kokoro” topped the Oricon singles chart, making him the oldest solo artist to do so at the time, and his 2005 album Soukana likewise reached No. 1.[1]
