Panam is Nippon Crown’s folk and new music label, launched in 1970. It released Taeko Ohnuki’s first two solo albums, including the city pop landmark Sunshower (1977), and Shigeru Suzuki’s Band Wagon.[1][2][3]
History
Panam began on 1 March 1970 with the Kyoto folk trio Mecha & Pecha and became Crown’s home for folk and new music, including Kaguya-hime and Kosetsu Minami.[1] For its 55th anniversary in 2025 it released a 133-track digital archive of its 1970s singles, and in October 2026 put 81 back-catalogue albums online.[1][4]
City pop
Taeko Ohnuki’s Grey Skies (1976) and Sunshower (1977) were made for Panam; Sunshower was recorded partly at Crown Studio and was her last original album for the label.[2] Shigeru Suzuki’s Band Wagon (1975) and Telescope (1978) also appeared on Panam.[3]
