Yukari Ito (born Nobuko Ito, 6 April 1947) is a Tokyo singer and actress who debuted as a child in 1958 and became one of the leading Japanese pops singers of the 1960s, later reinventing herself as an adult singer with albums such as the Tetsuji Hayashi-produced Misty Hour (1982).[1]
Early career
Ito began singing at US military camps as a child and made her formal debut on King Records in June 1958, aged 11. With Watanabe Production she formed the trio Spark 3-Musume with Mie Nakao and Mari Sono, and her 1967 single “Koyubi no Omoide” was a major hit. She hosted the red team at the 1969 NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen.[1]
1977–1980s
From 1977 to 1981 Ito hosted the TBS music programme Sound in “S”, which helped re-establish her as an adult singer. Recording for Victor’s Invitation label, she released Yukari, Anata no Tonari ni (1978), Anata Shika Miemasen (1979), Sketch (1980) and Misty Hour (1982), the last produced by Tetsuji Hayashi; later albums appeared on TDK and Alfa.[1] For her 2013 anniversary she released Memories of Me, produced by David Matthews.[1]
