Makoto Matsushita is a Japanese session guitarist, arranger and singer-songwriter whose AOR album First Light (1981) is one of the most sought-after records of the city pop revival.[1]
Career
Matsushita began working as a studio guitarist at 19 in 1974 and later played in the band AB’S.[1] His solo debut First Light was released on 21 September 1981, followed by the more progressive The Pressures and the Pleasures (1982) and Quiet Skies (1983); a fourth album, planned in 1984, finally appeared digitally in 2019 as Visions.[1]
Arranger
As an arranger and chorus arranger he worked across 1980s Japanese pop, including tracks for Kiyotaka Sugiyama & Omega Tribe, Hideki Saijo and SHOW-YA, and choruses for Johnny’s acts such as SMAP and KinKi Kids.[1] First Light has been reissued repeatedly, most recently in remastered editions in 2019.[1]
