Junk Fujiyama (born Naofumi Fujiki) is a Tokyo singer-songwriter whose city pop sound recalls Tatsuro Yamashita and Toshiki Kadomatsu, mixed with rock, soul and AOR.[1]
Career
Fujiyama began solo work in 2005 after his band Hayaoki× split, issuing the mini-album A Color on Poppin Records in 2009; drummer Shuichi “Ponta” Murakami backed his band from that year.[1] Junkspice (2010) included a cover of Alan O’Day’s “Undercover Angel”, earning praise from O’Day himself.[1] He made his major-label debut on Victor Entertainment in 2012 with the single “Ano Sora no Mukōgawa e”, followed by the album Junk Scape (2013) and the best-of Kazemachi Drive (2014).[1]
Later work
Later albums include Happiness (2020), Shine (2022, P-Vine) and Dreamin’ (2023, Pony Canyon).[1] In 2024 he released Shōkei Toshi: City Pop Covers on Pony Canyon, devoted to interpretations of the genre’s songbook.[1]
