Ryusenkei is a Japanese city pop group led by guitarist and songwriter Kunimondo Takiguchi, whose 2003 album City Music became an early touchstone of the modern city pop revival.[1][2]
History
The group formed in 2001, with Takiguchi on guitar and Yukiko Koga on vocals and flute among the original line-up.[1] Their debut City Music (2003) first gained recognition in DJ and mixtape circles: Tatsuo Sunaga put it on a mixtape and Naruyoshi Kikuchi named it his top pick of the year.[1] Tokyo Sniper (2006) featured guest vocalists, and Takiguchi went on to produce Hitomitoi’s City Dive (2012) and Your Time Route #1 (2012).[1][2]
Later work
Later projects paired the group with singers including Atsuko Hiyajo (Natural Woman, 2009), the singer Hitomi Toi (一十三十一; the Talio soundtrack, 2020), Yasuyuki Horigome (Incomplete, 2022) and Natsu Summer (Sun Kissed Lady, 2022).[1] In 2024 the band was restyled RYUSENKEI with singer Sincere, joined the revived Alfa Music label and released Illusion, followed by the career retrospective Time Machine Love 2003–25 (2025).[1]
